What’s on your phone, João?

Editor's note: Every week, I publish the phone's home screen from a blog reader. Want to participate? Fill out this form. Want more? Check out the archive. All app links go to the App Store, Play Store, or F-Droid.

What’s your name and what do you do?

My name is João and I’ve been a designer and photographer for at least 20 years. I love technology.

What phone and operating system do you use?

iOS, iPhone 15 Pro.

Tell us a bit about your wallpaper.

It’s an abstract piece I grabbed from @miboso__ on X. The guy has lots of cool artwork.

Why is your home screen set up the way it is?

My home screen is what I find most practical and what I use most directly. The next screen is a mix of widgets and apps that change from time to time.

I’m learning German, so I changed the system language to force myself. It’s really tough — I’ve had it like this for a year now and still haven’t gotten used to it.

The weather widget is essential for me. Project Indigo is incredible, way beyond the iPhone camera, shame it’s by Adobe and they’ll probably start charging USD 99 a month soon.

Image Sync, which I use to transfer photos from my camera, and Blackmagic Camera are there because I’m going on vacation next week and plan to use them a lot!

What’s the deal with the widgets?

  • Bring: It’s a grocery list app. It’s free, and it’s great for people who live with someone else. Both people can access the same list. I can’t understand how it’s free. It’s pretty and well-organized. And super practical!
  • Duolingo: It sucks!
  • Locket: It’s cool for sharing everyday moments with someone special, a friend.

What apps do you use most?

iOS Notes. I write everything down there. Recipes, ideas, thoughts, drafts. I’ve always used it. I tried switching to Obsidian for a year to be more “productive,” but in the end I found it a bit much, so I “unmigrated” everything back to Notes and I’m sticking with it.

Conexo, I play it every day. And Liit, for photo editing.

What’s the most obscure/weird/surprising app you use that you wish more people knew about?

Liit, that “pink Tinder” there, is a photo editing app with filters, same old thing, but it has the option to import LUTs. Which makes it much easier to share cool filters on the internet.
